COMIT
Analysing information found in the IMET formula and then formulating management proposals require specific skills that involve a change in the coach’s approach to training in the conservation field. To accommodate such change, the COMIT (Coach Observatory Mission Information Toolkit) was created. It can be used in coaching and developing the information system of the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management Observatory of BIOPAMA. OFAC also trains and provides technical support for training conservation officers in the COMIFAC countries.
Atlas NEPAD
OFAC contributed to the 2nd edition of the NEPAD Atlas on rural change in Africa by producing a spread on land use planning in Central Africa and land-use conflicts.
This second, revised and supplemented edition of the atlas A New Emerging Rural World takes stock of rural restructuring in both North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. It relates data on demographics, population, urbanization and resource use with spatial and economic dynamics, through examples on both a continental and a regional scale. It is an original tool intended to feed the debate on the main regional and continental development issues.
It is published jointly by CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development) and NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's Development, a technical arm of the African Union), with financial support from AFD (French Development Agency), and fits in with NEPAD's new Rural Futures program, designed to support territorial dynamics and structural change for continent-wide sustainable development.
The atlas is composed of 24 spreads and 77 illustrations, all produced through the collaborative work of 53 authors (including 23 from CIRAD) and 20 representatives of African institutions. It will be supplemented and updated regularly.
Widely acclaimed by participants of the 2nd African Rural Development Forum, organized by Nepad in Yaoundé, Cameroon on 8-10 September 2016, the Atlas is due to be presented to the European Union, the main donors in the rural sector and Heads of State at the African Union Summit in late January 2017 in Addis Ababa. It is available online, in English and French, on CIRAD’s website.
