Determination of atmospheric CO2 by transitioning from a largely tree-free to an agroforestry managed cultural landscape (carbon storage in the standing biomass of agroforestry systems, stabilisation or increase of the organic matter content of the soil) 2. Improvement of smallholder agriculture, the food situation and the living conditions of small farmers by increasing agricultural production on the area available 3. Preservation of the landscape-ecological functions of the forest through its function as a CO2 sink: stabilisation of the (for the precipitation process very important in the neighbouring cultural landscape) small water cycle, preservation of the water retention function, which is of fundamental importance for flood protection and the water supply of large parts of the country during the dry season 4. Capacity building through training of agricultural advisors and staff of local administration as well as through the mediation of contents from the fields of environmental education, soil protection, sustainable agriculture and forestry to groups of farmers, pupils and students
