Objectif général
The overall objective of the project was to create the basis for planning, designating and improving a system of protected areas covering 15% (approx. 35 million ha) of the national territory.
Objectif spécifique
1. To carry out a comprehensive review of the existing network of protected areas with clear and detailed recommendations for its extension to 15% of the land area
2. Capacity building of the partners involved and the regional population to participate in the processes of planning, implementation and optimisation as well as in the operation of existing and new protected areas.
3. Development of a national strategic plan for the consolidation, expansion and long-term viability of the network of protected areas.
