African elephant conservation genetics: GIS mapping of haplotypes for ivory forensics
To supports genetic research to more accurately identify the geographic region of origin of ivory using genetic markers. Researchers are working to refine the method for mapping mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) to source sites using existing reference samples, a method that shows great promise in identifying geographic origin more reliably than previous methods.
