Objectif général
The purpose of this project is to enhance security of chimpanzees in the Hoyo-Virunga landscape by establishing a patrol-based law enforcement system, identifying the current status and threats facing chimpanzees in the landscape, and educating communities about wildlife laws and the Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN).
Objectif spécifique
This will be done by supporting existing patrols of 28 rangers at Mt. Hoyo; providing technical support and training to rangers and management staff; conducting a survey of chimpanzees (and other biodiversity) in Mt. Hoyo and the adjacent corridor; and increasing awareness among local communities regarding wildlife laws, the role of ICCN, and the conservation of chimpanzees.
